Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde readers at Apartment Therapy.

As you may know, our home got featured on apartment therapy last week and like clockwork, the comments came flowing the gates of heaven and hell. You can't please everybody! LOL!

This is a sneak preview of the comments by different readers:

The lovers:

• love your chair collection!
• So creative and unique!
• its a dream home!
• Those chairs give me a warm and fuzzy feeling
• Beautiful home.
• impressed by the clean lines and organization of the home
• Great place, I love your chair collection!
• the house looks great!
• If there is a design and MCM heaven, your home would be it.
• love the colors and the combination of textures and materials.
• Wonderful home!
• There is something unexpected at every turn.
• an impressive amount of cool things
• Love it, esp the closet and bathroom
• Beautiful place ... is it located in South Beach?
• Perfect! My taste to a "T!"

The not so lovers:

• do you really need that many chairs and clocks?
• Have a seat! I have 100 of them here.
• Hoarders with rich people.
• expensive things you own
• walking into the nearest DWR and saying "I'll take one of each."
• This is a "look at all the toys I have post."
• It just felt like a DWR showroom.
• It's just missing price tags.
• is this supposed to inspire me?
• Typical designoid fodder. Wheres the actual design?
• guy is attempting to show off that he has 2 ipads
• Must be nice to have money
• a terrible looking home
• One is even inclined to wonder about the character of the owner
• a "collector" who just doesn't get it.
• It's cold, it's artificial, it's contrived

It makes for a very interesting read. I really enjoy them! We are not decorating our house to win any contest but rather to feel comfortable and relaxed at home. So far we've succeed.

Enjoy!

dee9:14 giveaway

I was lucky to find Dee's blog a while ago and I liked everything I saw... She's a very talented artist and have an amazing eye for all the fantastic mid century goodies.
As a "thank you" for a calendar I won on her site (monthly giveaways!), I sent her a care package with some posters for her and some to give away. So, now is your chance to get a pair of posters, that are unique in the color combo I used, exclusive for Dee's blog.

Gizmodo: BAS wireless speaker

A nice article from Jesus Diaz at Gizmodo about the use of gadgets and our expectations about them... I liked this part a lot:

"The temporary solution: Retrofit the old
The only good solution I've been able to come up with: Get old stuff in eBay and modernize them with new components. Or perhaps creating replicas from scratch. It feels a bit like cheating and bastardizing the originals, but it also feel like the only possible solution, now that the original cases are considered both rare and gorgeous and are made of lasting and romantic materials like steel and wood. There's a problem: It can get pretty expensive, like a Braun Atelier Speaker L1, Still, a lot cheaper than a super-high end AV component. And you can find lower cost gems, like this TS45 radio receiver, which could be a good base for a custom Pandora or Spotify radio. Maybe a company can do the retrofitting and sell the finished products at an affordable price. But they will likely end being a lot more expensive, so I'm afraid we will have to do it ourselves. The other problem with this solution is that design would lose its meaning. The pieces will look good, but they will be bastard hybrids in which buttons and dials lose their original meaning. Which may or may not help a piece's character."

BAS art prints featured on Portland's "The Original"

My friend Joe @ elroy art, sent me this pictures from an installation he is curating on one of the best and select MCM inspired restaurants in Portland, "The Original".
The show is called "Hot, Fresh & Percolated"

From "The Original" website:

"The Original, Portland's downtown destination for all-day dining, renews that spirit for the 21st century by serving up playful variations on the classic standards.

Made from ingredients seasonal and local, and prepared with classic French techniques, our inspired menu of eclectic American cuisine takes on regional favorites and modifies them with flavors and textures unique to the Pacific Northwest".

Enjoy the picture,
