creative desks: gregory han

Working for both Apartment Therapy and Unplggd, it seems perfectly appropriate my home office embodies small space live/work practices. What my closet office lacks in size and space is made up by a plentitude of vertical shelf space (most of it occupied by my graphic novel collection), optimized compact furnishings and home office elements, alongside a decor scheme similar to what I'd imagine Bruce Wayne's desk would look like if Tom Ford was invited to decorate.

You can visit Gregory's site here

Adrienne Breaux is the Editor-in-Chief of the fabulously awesome blog at 2Modern. She also contributes to Apartment Therapy and Austin's go-to online publication, CultureMap.

I’m a writer, blogger, design nerd, crafter, photographer and wit master here in Austin.  A graduate of Louisiana State University with a B.A. in Interior Design, I worked in the design field for years at a number of different design jobs, ran my own interior design consulting firm for over a year, and now do all sorts of freelance writing for the web and in print on the subjects of interior design, architecture, furniture, home design tips, the modern family, eco-friendly ideas, Austin and more. When I’m not writing about creating perfect spaces and fabulous designs, I enjoy making things and more writing. I’m currently still trying to find that perfect balance of somehow managing to do copious amounts of it all. I’ll keep you updated on my progress. When I’m not doing any of the above mentioned, I can usually be found hiking, walking or running around the Greenbelt or Town Lake. I also really like smoothies, sushi and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

creative desks: marcus fairs

The Dezeen offices are in a converted doctor's surgery in Stoke Newington, north London. Despite being a global website we are very proud of our neighbourhood and try to work with local people whenever we can - our graphic designer and our developer both live nearby, for example. Philippe Malouin, a designer who also lives in Stoke Newington, did the interior design for us using off-the-shelf materials and bespoke fixtures. The idea was to create something glamorous and dramatic on a very low budget. He also has a book available now: Dezeen Book of Ideas.

creative desks: jaime derringer

Jaime Derringer, editor of Design Milk and Dog Milk, lover of cheese, design enthusiast...
This is where I work and play all day, every day. Although I have a laptop, I like working at my desk best - it motivates me to get things done. Otherwise, I'll get distracted and end up in a black hole of Bravo TV and Doritos. My desk isn't usually this clean, but I try to keep it fairly tidy or I can't work. My office is one room in our new house that needs to be redesigned, since it also functions as the laundry room. We've been pretty busy with other projects, including a baby on the way, but one of these days I'll get to it...

creative desks: michael cannell

This is minimalistic at it best. Great views and clean desk. Michael Cannell is the founder and editor of The Design Vote Network and author of The Limit.

Juggling an active Internet career with writing, speaking, styling and consulting, Erin can be found daily at DesignForMankind.com, her art/design blog that was recently honored as one of the London Time’s top 50 design blogs in the world. She currently hosts a renovation column on HGTV.com where she catalogs her experiences as an impromptu interior designer. Erin’s work has been featured in Glamour, Lucky, Dwell, Readymade, Nylon, Print Magazine, Apartment Therapy and The Huffington Post.

creative desks: john & sherry petersik

This is the working desk of John & Sherry Petersik, who run a home improvement website called younghouselove.com. It was really just a hobby/passion that somehow turned into a full time job and no one is more surprised than they are. But they love blogging the days away and DIYing the nights away! They even built the desk they work at every day with secondhand $1 cabinets!

creative desks: joel pirela

This is my desk or for lack of a better term, my workspace. I pretty much do all the design work, industrial design prototype building and all my writing here.

Please enjoy!

Nakahouse by XTEN Architecture

Nakahouse comes from XTEN Architecture and brings a highly modern touch to this famous neighborhood. The residence is a remodel of a home initially built in the 1960′s. Due to budget and site limitations, the architects kept the foundation and footprints, but added outdoor terraces in order to take advantage of the surrounding views towards the Beechwood Canyon as well as the Griffith Park Observatory.

Myra Vale by Katon Redgen Mathieson

Set on five acres in the NSW Southern Highlands, this house is presented as a steel and glass pavilion perched upon a raised podium to take advantage of a north aspect and views across rolling hills and a nearby reservoir. Internally the house features terrazzo floors that extend out onto external terraces. The house overlooks a contemporary garden with a small purpose made lake and a 15 meter lap pool set amongst trees.

AA house

AA House, designed by Mexican office Parque Humano, is located in Mexico City, Mexico. Displaying an L-shaped floor plan with the living and dining room in the centre, the AA House is organized around an exterior landscaped space, designed by Pamela Burton. The rest of the rooms are arranged in a row, to capture as much outside views as possible thorough floor to ceiling windows.

browne street house

We love how the folks of Freshome (where we spotted this beautiful home) describe this architecture: full of voids and volumes that create interesting shapes to the exterior of the space, as well as pretty interesting shapes in the inside. It’s this manipulation of space so deftly that proves that Shaun Lockyer Architects are masters at architecture and understanding that people want interesting homes. We like that they play with your expectations…like in the kitchen and dining room. The same wood material is placed on the floor and on the kitchen island, making the two almost distinguishable and your eye a little confused. Filled with interesting furniture choices, this place is pretty amazing.

in upstate new york, USA. intended for two brothers, a pair of structures sharing similar geometric qualities are linked by
a functional agricultural field. the internal volumes are the result of a study of the mathematical principle of 'dissection' in

triangle containing parallel programmatic functions are arranged into a square and hexagonal plan configuration.

aoydesign: small house

japanese practice aoydesign has created 'small house', a fifty square meter single family residence located in tokyo, japan.
sited at the junction of three streets, this compact triangulated lot in a densely developed residential area required an
introspective design to maintain functionality and privacy. four parallel slanted volumes strategically allow natural daylight
to enter interior spaces while inhibiting direct views from neighbors while minimal penetrations to the facade reduce urban
sounds which may disturb dwellers.

House in Abiko by fuse-atelier

Conceived for a couple who collects furniture as a hobby, the design revolves around an open and brought living room that is flexible for multiple configurations.
Situated on a tight site flanked by neighboring structures, the monolithic form is constructed from reinforced concrete and features a multitude of faceted corners. Two volumes protrude out of the street facade to create an overhang above the entrance and the car park. The larger cantilevered arm is fronted with a single plane of glass which permits sunlight to enter the interior.

Narrabeen is a suburb with housing plots and street layouts characteristic of the ‘garden suburb’ ideals espoused by early 20th cen- tury Australian town planning.
