Room In A Box

Why mess up a perfectly good space with things such as walls?  Do like this couple did and create a space within a space using a room in a box.

TH house

while utilizing a courtyard to visually enlarge a space is not a new trick in japanese
modern architecture, tokyo-based architecture office baqueratta has taken a different
spin on the method. 'TH house' is a single family dwelling in tochigi prefecture, japan,
which features multiple pockets of courtyard spaces flanking almost all rooms and
programs. while extending the interior space is the primary reasoning behind this practice,
the house as a whole emphasizes the importance of framing, and how much it can change
the individual atmosphere of a room.

airport in mestia

berlin-based practice j. mayer h. architects has completed a new airport building
in mestia, georgia. developed as a part of the highland town's plans to spur its
tourism industry, the project was constructed in a mere three months.

comprised of three distinct wings, the design is dynamically wrapped in a pattern
of tinted glazing and solid white cladding. two branches curve upwards towards the sky,
generating a variation in interior ceiling conditions. while relatively hidden from
the outside, the structural ribs of the building create a rhythmic effect on the inside.

Wigli Stool

Try the Wigli, a Dutch stool which, well, wiggles. It has a three-legged milking-stool design, and the round seat wobbles. This offers support for your office-bloated body, but you have to steady yourself with those rarely-used muscles in your lower back and abdomen, which strengthens your core and stops you getting back pain. It’s kind of the grown-up version of sitting on a ginat rubber ball.

genets 3

This house is limited to a single level, it is weightless on the water area that separates it from the entrance avenue. To the left, the entrance shows its gallery wall. Descend a level, the construction frames the view over the fields, the countryside is yours. To the left, behind you, a series of levels interrupted by stairs that stretch outside bring the profile of the site together. To the right, beyond the overhanging part that covers the dining room, the kitchen benefits from a lateral patio that bathes in the morning sun. Go down further, the garden continues right up to the old trees in front of a swimming pool that is so long that it takes the liberty to fold back into the building through the fault-line freed up under the built-up framework.

the acoustic alarm

Product designer Jamie McMahon has produced The Acoustic Alarm which allows the user a more pleasant way of waking up in the morning. Inspired by various musical instruments, The Acoustic Alarm uses a rotational pick to pluck guitar strings to awaken its user.
Human emotions are influenced by many factors, and one of these factors which annoys people the most is the sound of their morning alarm. The Acoustic Alarm scraps the annoying morning alarm, and replaces it with a relaxing acoustic tune, which has been designed for the user to customise the tone of their alarm by adjusting the tuning pegs.
The Acoustic Alarm has been hand crafted from 2mm thick birch plywood, walnut and stainless steel. The body which is made from the birch plywood has been finished with a clear wax to keep the natural colour of the wood and to enhance the grain. The bridges, tuning pegs and string pick have been made from walnut to give a contrast in the shades of wood, as well as give strength to the pieces with most tension. The stainless steel knobs and switch give highlight to the product and make it clear that they control the alarm. The alarm is set by turning the steel knobs to the desired time (top for hours and bottom for minutes) and then flicking the switch to the ‘on’ position.

slow photography

The purpose of the Slow Photography camera is to provide a natural stepping-stone between using a mobile phone as a camera before taking the plunge into professional grade digital photography.

The Slow Photography camera has been designed as an alternate route in modern photography and requires the photographer to consider traditional photographic principles such as framing, composition and lens selection. The Slow Photography camera establishes that a mobile phone does not simply have to be a rudimentary point-and-shoot grade camera and takes a literal stance on a mobile phone applications for photography such as 'Hipstamatic'.
