sunbrella house
ome is a rural town located outside of tokyo, japan, where japanese firm ikeda yukie architects has recently completed
'sunbrella house'. the structure is situated on a slopping hill with views of mountains to the south and a preserved forest to the north and east.
taking into consideration the surrounding landscape the form has no sharp edges and all corners have been rounded to mimic the topography.
the open space concept allows for radial circulation and uninterrupted views of the neighborhood and bordering countryside.

melbourne-based architecture practice insite has shared with us images of 'base camp chewton',
a single-level weekend house located on the edge of the great dividing range in victoria, australia.
resting on a naturally inclined site surrounded by trees, the design features a slight cantilever to
the east which elongates the form towards the view below.

German design studio vezo design has created new lamp Vezo #2021. The # 2021 is a modern and minimalist table lamp. The standard version is made of anthracite-colored concrete and walnut. It is a warm white LED installed, the light output of these lamps is due to the dark wood very weak. The dimensions are 15 x 15 x 50 cm. The lamp can be manufactured in any size and color.

Quinta Da Baroness acts as the second home of a family and is located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Its unique architecture was designed by Studio Arthur Casas, constructed with recycled bricks and Cumaru wood as main materials, giving a natural finish to the different volumes that comprise it.

A nice wide open bottom floor features lots of public spaces, a modern kitchen, floor-to-ceiling windows that open up to let nature in and a cozy but spacious-enough feel. Upper lofts feature a bedroom and what looks like a storage or study room. We just love how tiny and cozy yet usable the space feels. Who needs a huge house when you have an efficiently-designed small one? This one designed by DinellJohansson.

the residential neighborhood of toyota, aichi, japan. the footprint of the structure creates a series of open wings on either half
of the dwelling generating a unified interior to foster continuous interaction between the family members. vertically striated
white metal panels clad the changing volume shape, shifting from rectilinear outer corners to a concave niche, discreetly presenting
the main entrance in the front elevation and a tree in the rear of the home.

a serene atmosphere to buffer the offices from the common areas. bound with a glass wall, designers may overlook
the activity within the store. at night, the polycarbonate panels glow from the interior showing shadows of people
moving within the showroom.

The cabin is five hundred square feet and is a private writers retreat and guest cottage. Located on San Juan Island, Washington, the owners wanted the cabin to feel contacted to its setting, the climate, the wildlife and views. They also needed a structure that could be easily secured when not in use.

Söderöra
On a remote island in the Stockholm archipelago, this small house is built within the context and specific conditions for construction that no car access for transports result in. The house is designed with a central open living space, and two bedrooms, a bathroom and a storage room placed in each of its four corners. Glazed niches create a connection with the exterior, and two recessed windows form covered outdoor terraces which function as an entrance porch and dining room. Roof and facades are finished with the same black slate bitumen standard roofing product. cottage was transformed into a contemporary residence using a limited space of 26 square meters. the extension from the existing
form resulted in a floating volume built with trapezoidal wooden structures.

Located in Marina di Ragusa, Sicily in Italy, this single-level contemporary residence was completed in 2010.

british-designer gavin coyle has developed 'companion rack', a magazine storage system which playfully captures
the ritual of a dog fetching the paper to afterwards rest by his/her master's side. the piece fits one rolled newspaper
in the mouth of the figure, with generous for magazines to be placed vertically in the body of the piece.
the work, constructed from CNC wire, allows for a lightness of form, allowing the colors of the magazines
to decorate the body and not overpower the environment of the work.

'seaside boomerang' by tokyo-based architecture firm atelier haretoke is a two-storey weekend villa
located on the edge of a beach in isumi, chiba prefecture, japan. taking advantage of the sweeping
panoramic view of the pacific, the design features a kink in the floor plan that visually 'cradles' around
the site, securing multiple vantage points that change throughout the house.

jelly swarm
jelly swarm' is an interactive lighting project created by vancouver-based tangible interaction who works in
creating sensory installations which stand as participatory experiences. the piece is comprised of ninety-four 'jellies',
each made from laser cut and scored Tyvek® that is then carefully hand-folded by origami artist joseph wu.
the ninety-four unit, all illuminated from within by an LED module, are suspended from a reflective aluminum structure
which reflects patterns of color and light onto the surrounding space.
